The logo is made up of two powerful symbols. The cross is the symbol representing how Jesus allows us to have peace with God through his sacrificial death.

The other symbol is a West African symbol known as mpatapo or the “knot of reconciliation.” It represents peacemaking after strife. Before we receive Christ we are at strife with God but after we receive Christ peace is made with God.

A Look into Our Future

Shiloh Baptist Church is giving God the glory as we are continuing to make history, strengthening its family, serving the community. More than anything else we are a people that celebrate the presence of God in our midst when we gather as a church for corporate worship. It is as we experience God as we worship that we hear God speak to us, receive fuel to face life, and are reassured that God is real.

We continue to make history as we embrace what God is doing now while at the same time remembering the legacy of Shiloh as a trailblazing church in the Greater Hartford Area. Our history inspires us to stand on the shoulders of our ancestors and keep evaluating our mission and vision to minister to this present age.

In a day when families are broken and fractured we view ourselves as a family. We celebrate children and youth, honor our elders, and affirm adults of every age and stage life. It does not matter where you are from, your race or nationality, or how much money you have we all are one big family. Each ministry is expected to pay extra attention to others that serve in the ministry because we are family. Additionally our congregational care model known as the “Tribal Ministry” based off the Twelve Tribes or Israel is a congregation wide effort for the church as a family to care for each other and let all know that they matter. While we cannot recreate the old neighborhoods of the “good ole days”, we can have that same feeling as a church and by serving as that village and extended family.

Finally, we are a church that believes that we should not only Love God but as the second part of the Great Commandment says love our neighbor as well. Weekly we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and visit those in prison. Current efforts are being developed to partner with other churches and like minded organizations in order to not only meet basic needs but help those who want help to transform their lives spiritually, socially, and economically. One person put it this way as I paraphrase, meeting basic needs is like giving a person a fish which means they will eat for one day. The next step is to teach them to fish so they can feed themselves for a lifetime. The final step is toward economic development where we ask who owns the pond and then make plans to own it.

Collectively we strive to make our church, families, and communities “A PLACE YOU WANT TO BE, A PLACE OF PEACE!”
